Morecambe Bay - More than sinking sands….
What comes to mind when someone mentions Morecambe Bay to you - do you even know where it is?
Most people would associate the bay with sinking sands, the famous Cross-Bay walk or Morecambe Bay shrimp - maybe the TV series 'The Bay'.....
But Morecambe Bay is so much more than this....
The area surrounding the bay from Heysham round to Barrow is one of the most bio-diverse areas in England - that means it's choc full of wildlife!
The bay itself is the largest intertidal estuary in the UK making it a great feeding ground for birds with over quarter of a million of our feathered friends passing through each year.
The wonderful mosaic of sand dunes, grasslands, woodlands and limestone outcrops that ring the edge of the bay allow a unique collection of plants and wildlife to thrive, including many rare species.
