Respect | Protect | Enjoy
Three great words to live by and the moto of ‘The Countryside Code’ - Respect, Protect, Enjoy.
As someone who has always spent time in the countryside ‘The Countryside Code’ is etched into my being but not everyone is lucky enough to have grown up with that knowledge and experience.
The code is just as important today as ever with more people discovering our beautiful countryside every day. It’s a really simple set of rules and obvious to those of us who frequent a walk in the hills, but it’s difficult to know if you’ve never really experienced the outdoors.
‘The Countryside Code’ is something we should all be aware of and help others to understand - over the last year Natural England have re-launched the code and the CLA have been working with LEAF to create a new education pack for schools to help raise awareness of how we can all look after our beautiful open spaces.
Morecambe Bay also has a special Coastal Code - a guide to keeping nature safe from harm as well as staying safe yourself, so that everyone can continue to enjoy the Bay.
So if you’re holidaying in the UK and heading out into the great outdoors take a look at these codes before you go and think about how you can help keep these places special.
If you’re unfamiliar with the area and don’t know where to go then I’d recommend checking out The Outdoor Guide walks or take away the stress of not knowing where to go and seek out local guides and tour providers to help you find your way round new places and get a deeper experience. Not only will you have a great time but you’ll also be supporting the local economy and the work that goes into looking after the natural environment.
